Gama offers access to deep space using reliable, affordable and scalable solar sails. While chemical and electric propulsion are complex and limited in range, solar sails fulfil the dream of free and continuous acceleration using the sun's energy. Gama is also developing high performance drag sails to deorbit spacecraft, allowing satellite operators to meet new international regulations and keep space sustainable.
Our team is the secret to our success. We are proud to be working with inspiring colleagues who are smart, fun, ambitious and looking for the challenge to transform an industry.
Do you think this could be you? To pursue our ambitious vision, we are looking for an Embedded Systems Engineering Intern to join our team for a 6-month paid internship at Gama. In this position, you will contribute to the development and improvement of our Ground Support Equipment (GSE) used for spacecraft subsystem validation.
Your mission will be to:
- Contribute to the improvement of our GSE, on one or several of the following topics:
- Electronics design: update hardware architecture, design circuits, select components, draw schematics and layout PCBs in collaboration with other engineering teams.
- Embedded software: implement new features using Rust, either on embedded platforms (bare-metal or embedded Linux) or on desktop environment.
- Automation systems: enhance our sail assembly and integration machine software and hardware, based on OpenPLC and a JavaScript user interface, to support new tools and improve overall capabilities.
- Test instrumentation: design and automate electronic test setups using LabJack data acquisition systems (T7/T8), interfaced with Python, for hardware-in-the-loop and environmental testing of flight electronics.
- Validate your hardware and software developments through hands-on testing and characterization to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with space standards.
You come with:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Embedded Systems Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
- Experience (academic, professional, or personal) with embedded software development (Rust, C, C++) or PCB design.
- Knowledge of embedded systems design, debugging, and microcontroller programming.
- Familiarity with electronic circuit design, PCB layout, and lab testing instrumentation.
- Experience with Git or other source control systems is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and genuine curiosity.
- Good spoken and written English - further languages welcome.
We offer:
- A unique opportunity to shape the future of space exploration and sustainability**.**
- A direct impact on product strategy, quality culture, and mission success.
- Access to cutting-edge facilities and development opportunities in the European space ecosystem.
- A supportive, ambitious, and curious team driven by innovation and impact**.**
