Gama offers access to deep space using low-cost, reliable and scalable solar sails. While chemical and electric propulsion are complex and limited in range, solar sails fulfil the dream of free and continuous acceleration using the sun's energy. Gama is also developing high-performance drag sails to deorbit spacecraft, allowing satellite operators to meet new international regulations and keep space sustainable.
Our team is the secret to our success. We are proud to be working with inspiring colleagues who are smart, fun, ambitious and looking for the challenge to transform an industry.
Do you think this could be you? To pursue our ambitious vision, we are looking for an Attitude Control Intern (M/F) to participate in a 6 month paid internship at Gama. In this position, you will be working on our sailing propagation software, designing control algorithms to follow solar sail steering orbital laws.
Your mission will be to:
- Contribute to the implementation of control features on our sailing propagator software, using Matlab/Simulink. It includes :
- Define the control strategy for already implemented sailing steering laws
- Implement new and improve the current actuator models
- Implement new and improve our current sensor models
- Investigate state of the art methods for our control architecture (PID, LQR, MPC, Adaptive Control, etc.) based on satellite/orbital specifications and control metrics (stability, accuracy, speed, robustness, overshoot, steady-state error)
- Implement different control algorithms and fine-tune them to respect pointing precision specifications
- Analyze and evaluate the performances of the control algorithms implemented
- Add sensor noises to the measurements, and investigate/implement discrete filtering techniques
You come with:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Control Engineering, or a related field.
- Good spoken and written English
- Good knowledge of Matlab/Simulink
- Strong analytical skills, a proactive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and unbounded curiosity
- Eagerness to work in a dynamic start-up environment is a must
- Prior experience with source control (GitHub, Gitlab) is a plus
- Prior experience in GNC topics is a plus
- Prior experience in the space sector or a comparable high-reliability industry is a plus
We offer:
- A unique opportunity to shape the future of space exploration and sustainability
- A direct impact on product strategy, quality culture, and mission success
